Preamble
MAPW (Australia) recognises that
1. In the event of nuclear war, any adequate medical response would be impossible.
By having facilities on its soil for functions which relate to preparing for or fighting a nuclear war, Australia’s involvement adds to the threat to global health.
2. In the event of nuclear war, there would be a significant risk of nuclear attack involving Australians living near such facilities. Any medical response for the survivors would be totally inadequate.
3. The current preparations to fight nuclear war are creating major psychological problems for people throughout the world, particularly the young, including those living in Australia.
Military facilities in Australia play a part in such preparations.
Policy
MAPW (Australia) opposes the existence in Australia of facilities that prepare to fight or could be used to fight nuclear war.
