Military personnel

Military personnel are both perpetrators and victims in the violence of war.

Military personnel continue to be killed and injured in wars around the world — although over the last century civilians have been harmed and killed in such rapidly increasing numbers that the military make up only 10% of casualties in recent wars.

The strategies and technologies of modern wars are also causing previously undocumented types of harm to military personnel. Concerns have been raised in particular about mental health effects, and about the effects of new weapons including depleted uranium.
