ICAN New Clear Exchange Melbourne

The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons  (ICANⁱ) in partnership with the Australian Conservation Foundation (ACFⁱ) are holding four workshops on nuclear weapons issues in February 2010 in Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Sydney.

The New Clear Exchange workshop will be a dynamic mix of information and discussion about nuclear weapons issues. We hope to excite lively discussions with ICAN partners and other NGOⁱs on how nuclear disarmament is interconnected with the issues of climate change, aid and development, domestic nuclear issues and social justice. We will provide  contemporary and easy to understand information and resources on:

• Current nuclear weapons capabilities and national and international efforts towards disarmament
• The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (in the lead up to the  2010 Review Conference at the UNⁱ in May)
• The Model  Nuclear Weapons Convention (developed by NGOs internationally)
• The United Nations Treaty System and how NGOs work within the  system

WHO IS INVITED:

The  workshops are specifically targeted for environment non-government organisations, aid and development organisations, church groups, unions and  international studies students and academics, as well as those already involved in nuclear issues in Australia and globally.

Each forum will have limited spaces and we look forward to hearing your expressions of interest.

The New Clear Exchange workshops are scheduled to run from 10am – 5pm on the days below.

• PERTH                 Thursday 18  February 2010
• ADELAIDE         Tuesday 23  February 2010
• SYDNEY              Friday 26 February  2010

Melbourne workshop details:

The Melbourne New Clear Exchange will be held on 15 February 2010.

Registration at the venue will commence at 9.30am. The Exchange will end at 5.00pm. Please ensure that you arrive on time.

Tea/ Coffee and Vegetarian lunch will be provided.
