In November 2009, nine students from IPPNWi affiliates around the world, with IPPNWi Co-President Vapu Tappaile, met in Berlin to attend the 10th Annual Summit of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates.
National Council met in Melbourne on the weekend of 29030 August 2009. Representatives from all eight Australian branches attended this annual meeting.
The Festival of Peace and Remembrance was planned to oppose the Adelaide APDSE arms fair scheduled to open on Remembrance Day, 11 November 2008. However after much public protest, the arms fair was cancelled; but the festival went ahead to celebrate the closure and to maintain the campaign against the global weapons trade
On Friday afternoon 3 October 2008, the NT government announced it would give an exporation licence for the Angela-Pamela Uranium Deposit, despite widespread opposition. Local residents, including MAPW members, assembled immediately to protest; and held a major rally the following Sunday.
Long-time MAPW member and former IPPNWi Chair Ian Maddocks was presented with MAPW's Distinguished Physician Award in recognition of his work for peace, at this well-attended dinner on 23 August 2008 in Melbourne.
Over 40 people participated in a vigil on Wednesday August 6 2008, to commemorate the bombing of Hiroshima at the same time in 1945. MAPW initiated the vigil, with Japanese for Peace, Pax Christi, the Quakers and members of other peace and anti-nuclear organisations joining in. At 8.15 am a minute's silence marked the time that the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, killing 80,000 people immediately,
Students from the state of Kerala came to Delhi for a hunger strike against the India-US nuclear deal. MAPW representatives met and expressed support for the six hunger strikers and their representatives.
IPPNWi World Congress, held in Delhi, in March 2008, had over 600 participants including almost 300 students and junior doctors. Meetings discussed campaigns against nuclear weapons and small arms as well as many other issues relating to the causes and effects of war.
MAPW had a small contingent and a large banner at the 2008 Palm Sunday peace march. (Other active members were still returning after our Delhi Congress).
