| Background | John Langmore is a Professorial Fellow in the Political Science Department at the University of Melbourne. Between 1984 and 1996, he was a Member of the Australian House of Representatives for the seat of Fraser. He was Director of the UNi Division for Social Policy and Development in New York for five years from 1997 and then Representative of the International Labour Organization to the United Nations for two. Professor Langmore is the national president of the UN Association of Australia. His book Dealing with America: the UN, the US and Australia was published in September 2005 and To Firmer Ground: Restoring Hope in Australia, which was commissioned by the Australian Collaboration of which ACOSS, ACFi, ACFID, Choice, FECCA and NCCA are members, was published in September, 2007.
